Are the slides re-usable?
The slides can be used over and over with proper care.  The inked grid on the green slide may deteriorate with time.  Wash with warm soapy water, preferable before your specimen dries out, making the inside of the slide more difficult to clean.  Back to top

What’s the difference between the green grid and standard slides?
The slides are identical except for the grid
The green slide may be preferred for easier counting when running many fecals or when examining more highly pigmented feces such as with goats and sheep.  We sell equal numbers of both.

Should I buy the Paracount-EPG™ kit or just the slides?
Fecal analysis is not a perfect science and should be used under the guidance of a trained professional.  That said, if you have calibrated mixing vials, pipettes,  and a full understanding of the methodology, the slides alone may suffice. The kit comes with 2 slides, mixing vials calibrated for use with the slide, transfer syringes and helpful written information. Back to top

What is the purpose of the new 3-chambered slide?
This slide increases the sensitivity and accuracy of the Egg Per Gram count. By that we mean, when a fecal is run, for example,  using a 26/4 ml mix of flotation/feces,  the multiplier is 8  (vs 25 for the 2-chambered slide).   EG., if 1 egg is found,  the reultant EPG  is  8 X 1 egg=EPG  8 (vs. 25 X 1= 25 epg for the 2-chambered slide).  Each chamber of the 3-chambered slide has a grid 1 cm X 2 cm, which is the equivalent of the 2-chambered slide, so three times as much fecal mix is examined, lending to increased accuracy.

Are all counting slides the same? i.o.w., are yours better than others?
There may be other slides available, but none as accurate. It is very important to use a precisely made slide because the grid  on the slide and the volume under the grid are what produce accurate and consistent results. There is an exact quantitative relationship between the volume under the grid of the slide and the formula for mixing fecal matter with flotation solution.  Our slides are manufactured to exact standards in order for the Egg Per Gram results  to be correct when you are outlining your deworming program and determining if your anthelmintics (dewormers) are effective.  We have seen many types of slides where the grids are sloppy or fuzzy and the volumes vary from slide to slide. We have been manufacturing counting slides since 1980, and our first customers were the veterinary teaching colleges in the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand.. So, as they say, accept no substitute.  The health and thriftiness of your stock depends on it. Back to top

Where do I get flotation solution?
From your vet supply house, or veterinarian. It can also be purchased online from www.revivalanimal.com Item 29-112.  Formulations are also included in Veterinary Parasitology, 6th ed., Iowa State Press.  It includes a sugar solution which may be preferred.  It is important to have the proper specific gravity. What kind of microscope do I need?
We suggest a good quality microscope that has 3 features:  (1) a 10X eye piece and a 10X objective for a total power of 100; (2) a mechanical stage for precise slide control; and (3) a built-in light source.  If you can afford a binocular model, that is a worthwhile investment although not critical.  We sell warranted microscopes, both monocular and binocular that will work well. Where can I read up on the subject of fecal analysis that is up to date and scientific?
Please read the series of articles written by Dr. Craig Reinemeyer on www.thehorse.com.
These articles cover several aspects of the subject from the standpoint of not only the importance of quantitative egg counts, but the interpretation of results and practical application as they relate to use and choice of anthelmintics (dewormers).  Many subjects are covered, including but not limited to,  drug rotation (when appropriate),  herd management, worm biology, resistance, pasture management.

Do you ship to foreign countries?
Yes, since 1980 we have sent our precision, USA-made slides all over the world.  Please order directly from us. We will advise if there is a distributor in your country to make ordering easier. Back to top

Do you accept purchase orders?
We do accept POs for the purpose of including this control number on our invoices; however, we prefer payment with order, via Visa, Mastercard or Discover, or prepayment with cheque.  If this is inconvenient, contact us for other arrangements. Back to top
