Paracount-EPGTM Fecal Analysis Kit
with McMaster-Type Counting Slides
(Order this product on line from our Order page. )

This kit includes components to determine a quantitative Egg Per Gram (EPG) count in grazing animals and ruminants utilizing a modified McMaster egg counting technique.*  An EPG quantitative analysis is generally accepted as more accurate and meaningful than a simple qualitative approach. Paracount EPG Fecal Analysis kit

The kit performs a quick quantitative fecal test for an EPG, also the most accurate indication of parasite paddock or pasture contamination, which in turn leads to reinfection in the animal.  An effective parasite control program can be based on quantitative fecal analysis.  The primary objective of the control program should be to monitor and maintain EPG counts at low levels and to deworm at targeted egg counts appropriate for the individual animal.  By basing anthelmintic applications on EPGs rather than on arbitrary intervals, a more effective program can be established for thriftier animals, and possible economic savings with less chemicals applied to both the animals and their environment.

The Paracount-EPG™ test is simple and quick.  A fecal sample is mixed in volumetric proportion in a calibrated vial with flotation solution.  An aliquot is then transferred to our specialized counting slide which is observed microscopically at 100X.  Eggs within the slide's grids are counted, a multiple factor applied, and the EPG determined.  The test demonstrates eggs normally recovered by flotation, including the eggs of S. vulgaris, S. edentatus, small strongyles, and Parascaris equorum.

*While the Paracount-EPG™ kit is primarily for veterinary and other laboratory technicians, breeders of horses, cattle, sheep, goats and other ruminants may find the kit useful under the guidance of a professional.  NOTE:  use of the kit may be ineffective without proper training of parasite species recognition.  Chalex Corporation discourages its use unless a professional trained in parasitology is consulted.  Additional equipment necessary is a microscope with 100X magnification and a mechanical stage, and a commercial flotation solution.  We discourage the use of non-commercial solutions.

  • Tests anthelmintic efficacy in specific EPG terms
  • Costs less and takes less time than other techniques
  • Tells when to deworm, based on the EPG you target
  • Quantifies any resistance to an anthelmintic
  • Helps determine the timing of applications in rotational deworming programs which use drugs of varying effectiveness
  • Indicates the degree of environmental contamination occurring
  • Components are reusable
